Baseball Finalizes 2012 Signing Class With Three Additional Signees

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss head baseball coach Scott Berry announced today the final three signees for the 2012 class, capping off what is one of the top classes in school history.
"These three players round out the best signing class in school history," head coach Scott Berry said. "I want to thank our assistant coaches Chad Caillet (Recruiting Coordinator) and Michael Federico for their work in putting together this class filled with some of the nation's best players."
Berry announced today the signing of prep INF/RHP Bradley Roney and transfers in RHP Trevor Walch and RHP Cameron Giannini to cap off the 12 additions for the 2012 class.
Roney is a six-foot-two, 180 pound all-state player out of Wetumpka HS near Montgomery, Alabama. As a junior he hit .415 with a .492 on base percentage and a .679 slugging percentage. He also tallied four home runs and 28 RBI with 18 stolen bases. A three-time all-metro selection he participated in the East-West All-Star Game and was named a AHSAA All-Star.
Perfect Game ranks him as the eighth best prep player in the state of Alabama and 300th best prep player in the nation.
Walch played last season at Oklahoma State, where he signed out of high school, and will play 2011 at Georgia Perimeter CC. At OSU he made 10 relief appearances where he was 1-1 and struck out 18 in 14.2 innings pitched.
He was ranked as the eighth best prep player in Oklahoma and the 377th best nationally out of high school by Perfect Game.
As a prep player at Eufaula HS in Oklahoma he was a four-time all-conference player who struck out 279 hitters in149 innings over his four year prep career. He was also an all-state football player and a all-conference basketball player.
Giannini played last season for Liberty University where he was 4-3 with a 6.00 ERA. He started six games while appearing in 18 and worked 45 innings. He struck out 40 and walked 25.
He was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 49th round of the 2009 MLB draft as a prep player at Hargrave Military Academy. At HMA he was an All-American selection while posting a combined 12-4 record with a 1.78 ERA. In 89 innings pitched, he has surrendered only 24 walks, while striking out 145 opposing hitters.
Giannini has also batted .565 with nine home runs and 63 RBIs over 2007 and 2008. The right-hander earned VIC All Conference first team honors in 2007 and 2008, was named to the Danville All Metro Team in 2007 and 2008 and was named 2008 VISAA All State second team in 2008.
Ranked by Perfect Game as the 57th best Junior College Prospect in the country, he will play the 2011 season at San Jacinto CC in Texas.
Along with these three players nine others join the 2012 class in: Conner Barron (INF, Sumrall, Miss./ Sumrall HS), Cody Carrol (RHP, Mt Juliet, Tenn/ Mt. Juliet HS), Ryan Ellis (1B/OF, Columbia, Miss./ Columbia HS), Breck Kline (INF, Slidell, La./ Northshore HS), Nick Johnson (RHP, Ridgeland Miss./RidgeLand HS), Luke Lowery (LHP, Sumrall, Miss./ Sumrall HS), Taylor Nunez (RHP, Metairie, La./ Salmen HS), Andrew Pierce (RHP, Jones County JC/ Stringer, Miss.) and Mason Robbins (OF/LHP, Leaksville, Miss/ George County HS).
