Cross Country Competes in Chile Pepper Festival, Finishes 27th

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Southern Miss cross country team competed in the 22nd Chili Pepper Festival, finishing 27th overall out of 56 teams at the University of Arkansas' Agri Park Cross Country Course.
Southern Miss scored 648 points. The Golden Eagles sported pink running uniforms in honor of breast cancer awareness month. Oklahoma State's team captured the team title with 72 points, placing three runners in the top 20.
Senior Zuna Portillo (Antioch, Calif.) was the top finisher for the Golden Eagles at 77 and covering the 5K course in a time of 18:15.59 in posting a personal best. Stephanie Ledgerwood (Yuma, Ariz.) finished 105 with a time of 18:23.91 followed by Krista Moylan (Palos Hills, Ill.) was 118 with a personal-best time of 18:30.54 and Jocelyn Lockhart (Bath, Canada) finished 175 and ran a season-best time of 18:59.5. Rounding out the USM finishers were Kara Moylan (Palos Hills, Ill.) at 251 and posted a time of 19:29.83 and Brittany Ware (Hattiesburg, Miss) finished with a season-best time of 21:24.38.
The Golden Eagles will take next weekend off before heading to Tulsa, Okla., for the Conference USA Championship, Nov. 1.
