Cross Country Team Wins Southern Miss Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss cross country team opened the 2009 season with a stellar performance at the 29th Annual Southern Miss Invitational.
The Eagles had the first three runners that crossed the finish line, led by Krista Moylan with a time of 18:37.55. Zuna Portillo Rodriguez took second with a time of 18:45.89 and Stephanie Ledgerwood finished in third with a time of 18:38.22.
Other Southern Miss finishers were Kara Moylan, who took 10th-place with a time of 19:48.12, LaSheika Dinkins in 27th-place with a time of 22:20.70 and Kelley Rooney in 29th-place with a time of 23:16.61.
The Eagles took the team title, placing for runners in the top 10 for 40 points. Nicholls State finished second with 44 points, followed by West Alabama in third with 75 points, Jackson State in fourth with 78 points and Xavier in fifth with 110.
West Alabama took the men's team title with 36 points placing four runners in the top 11. Xavier finished in second with 48 points, followed by Jackson State in third with 63 points, Nicholls State in fourth with 69 points and Mobile in fifth with 127 points.
Southern Miss returns to action in two weeks when they participate in the Azalea City Classic, September 19.
