Southern Miss vs. Virginia Game Notes September 19, 2009 M.M. Roberts Stadium
* Captains for Southern Miss were running back Tory Harrison, running back Damion Fletcher, defensive lineman Terrance Connor, linebacker Korey Williams and offensive lineman Brennan Houston.
* Today's attendance was 31,170.
* Southern Miss improves to 3-0 on the year. It is the first time they have started the season 3-0 since 2004.
* Southern Miss is now 1-0 all-time against Virginia, as today's game marked the first time the two teams have met on the football field.
* The Golden Eagles also improve to 18-23-1 against the Atlantic Coast Conference.
* Southern Miss is now 5-2 in non-conference games under head coach Larry Fedora.
* With the victory, the Golden Eagles have won eight consecutive games, dating back to last year, which is currently the second longest active streak in the nation behind Florida (13).
* The eight-game winning streak is also the longest since winning 10 straight over the 1958-59 seasons.
* Southern Miss held Virginia to 78 rushing yards. It is the eighth straight game they held their opponent under 100 yards rushing.
* Virginia's first quarter touchdown pass was the first points allowed by Southern Miss in the first quarter this year. It also gave the Golden Eagles their first deficit of the year.
* Southern Miss was held scoreless in the first quarter for the first time this year.
* Virginia's 34 points were the most given up by Southern Miss this year.
* Redshirt sophomore quarterback Austin Davis threw for 130 yards on 14-of-26 passing.
* Davis connected on a three-yard touchdown pass to freshman tight end Ryan Hanks in the third quarter.
* Hanks' touchdown catch was his first career reception.
* Davis now has five touchdown passes on the year and 28 for his career.
* Senior running back Damion Fletcher ran for 115 yards on 26 carries. It is his 24th career 100-yard rushing game.
* Fletcher had two rushing touchdowns, a three-yard run in the second quarter and a 10-yarder in the fourth, giving him four for the season and 40 for his career.
* Fletcher's 40 career rushing touchdowns breaks the Southern Miss record for career rushing touchdowns, previously held by Sammy Winder (1978-81). It also puts him third all-time in Conference USA.
* Senior running back Tory Harrison ran for 101 yards on three carries.
* Harrison's 57-yard touchdown run was his second of the season and 16th of his career.
* This is the first time this season, and the 18th overall, that Southern Miss had two 100-yard rushers.
* Senior wide receiver Freddie Parham returned a kick 100-yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. It is the first kick return for a touchdown since 2004 against Houston.
* Parham's return tied the second longest in school history, and broke the M.M. Roberts Stadium record.
* Senior defensive back Andre Watson's fumble recovery in the first quarter was his first of the season and third of his career.
* Redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Deddrick Jones' forced his first career fumble in the first quarter.
* Redshirt junior linebacker Martez Smith recorded his first interception in the second quarter and second of his career.
* Senior defensive lineman Terrance Conner recorded his first sack of the season. He now has one and a half for his career.
* Redshirt sophomore linebacker Korey Williams recorded one and a half sacks, giving him two and a half on the year of the season and three and a half on his career.
* Redshirt sophomore linebacker Ronnie Thornton recorded a half sack, the first of his career.
* Sophomore defensive lineman Terrance Pope recorded the first sack of his career in the fourth quarter.
