Volleyball Team Rolls Over Jackson State, 3-0

MOBILE, Ala. -- Southern Miss used a balanced scoring attack, registering four players with six or more kills to lead the Golden Eagles to a 25-16, 25-16, 25-14 win over Jackson State at the Jaguar Classic in Mobile, Ala., Saturday morning.
The Golden Eagles improved to 9-1 and JSU falls to 1-8. Southern Miss hit over .300 for the third time (.320) with 18 blocks. JSU hit .081 and had two blocks. USM got eight kills on 11 swings for .727 hitting out of Caitlin Clarke. Amelia Hendrickson, Sarah Jane Bowden and Haley Ecker tallied six kills apiece and combined for nine blocks. Freshman Brianna Arvin had five kills and added a four blocks to her tally.
The Eagles eased out to a 16-9 in the first set and used .423 hitting to keep the Tigers at arms' length. Four Golden Eagles recorded three kills each for a 25-16 win.
In the second set, Maia Ivanova served 11 straight points in taking the Eagles from a 13-12 lead to a 23-13 lead. Ivanova recorded three aces during the streak to help USM take the second set 25-16.
Bowden served 12 points including the last five for set point as Southern Miss claimed a 25-14 win in the final set. The Golden Eagles hit .318 to JSU's .000.
Southern Miss concludes play in the Jaguar Classic with a match against Nicholls State at 4 p.m.
