Palmer to be Recognized at Ferriss Award Presentation

JACKSON, Miss. - - Retiring Southern Miss baseball coach Corky Palmer will be recognized for his contributions to Mississippi baseball during the Cellular South Ferriss Trophy presentation on Monday, May 18, 2009 at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum in Jackson.
Palmer will attend the Cellular South Ferriss Trophy presentation with Brian Dozier, his outstanding shortstop who is one of three finalists for Mississippi's best collegiate baseball player this year. The other two finalists are Ole Miss pitcher Scott Bittle, the 2008 Ferriss Trophy winner, and Belhaven College pitcher Craig Westcott.
Players at all of Mississippi's four-year baseball programs are eligible for the honor, which has been presented annually since 2004. The award is named after Shaw, Miss. native Dave "Boo" Ferriss, a former Mississippi State All-American player and long-time Delta State head baseball coach who is an inductee in the Boston Red Sox and Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.
