Baseball Inks Prep Athlete From Mobile Area for 2010

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss head baseball coach Corky Palmer announced today the signing of high school pitcher/infielder Jay Myrick from Spanish Fort High School outside of Mobile, Ala.
"Jay is a good athlete that could pitch and play infield for us at Sothern Miss," head coach Corky Palmer said. "He has a good fastball and curve ball and his high school numbers are solid from the plate as well."
Myrick joins the Golden Eagles from Spanish Fort high where he played for coach Tommy Walker. He is an All-State and All-County selection who played in the Alabama High School Athletic Association All-Star Game.
On the mound he is 19-6 in his career with six saves, working 165 innings with 256 strikeouts. He is 3-0 this season in 21 innings with 38 strikeouts and a2.63 ERA. He features a fastball in the 88-90 MPH range with a good curveball.
At the plate he is a .310 hitter with 30 doubles and 21 home runs and 124 career run scored.
Myrick becomes the eighth player signed for the 2010 class including high schoolers Jared Bales (C-Picayune HS/Picayune, Miss.), Dillon Day (LHP- Duchtown, HS/Geismas, La.), Chase Fowler (C- South Forsyth HS/Cumming Ga.), Geoffrey Thomas (RHP- Stephenson HS/Stone Mountain, Ga.) and Chase Wroten (RHP -Hillcrest Christian HS/ Jackson, Miss.) along with Junior College transfers Marc Bourgeois (OF-Chipola CC/Montreal, Quebec) and Patrick Corbin (LHP- Chipola CC/Syracuse, NY).
