Lady Eagles Play Final Game At Home, Host Memphis

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team wraps up its regular season when the Lady Eagles host Memphis Saturday in a 5 p.m., tip.
With a win, Southern Miss earns at least a share of the 2008-09 regular season title with either UTEP or SMU.
The three seniors, Andrea Barber, Amber Eugene and Kendra Reed, will be honored in a post-game ceremony.
The Lady Eagle game can be heard on WXHB-FM 96.5 with the "Voice of the Lady Eagles" Josh West providing play-by-play action with former coach Kay James as the color analyst.
Southern Miss is 18-10 overall and 11-4 league play following a 71-52 win against UAB in which Stephanie Helgeson scored a career-high 26 points, while Kendra Reed tossed in 15 points. Pauline Love hauled in 11 rebounds. The Lady Eagles had their third game under 20 turnovers.
Love continues to lead the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, while Helgeson upped her averages to 11.1 points and 6.8 rebounds.
As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 69.5 points and 40.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 45.1 percent from the field and 68.2 percent from the line. The Lady Eagles have connected on 119-of-363 from behind the arc.
Memphis comes into the game with an 11-17 record overall and 4-11 in league play, after an 82-67 loss at UCF. Paris Leonard led the way with 21 points, followed by Ashley Thornton with a double-double, 13 points and 13 rebounds and Shae Seagraves chipped in 11 points.
This is the 47th meeting between the two teams in a series dating back to 1973-74 season. Memphis leads the series 24-22. Southern Miss won the first meeting between the two teams back in January.
Following the Memphis game, the Lady Eagles will find out their tournament seed heading into the Conference USA Tournament, Mar. 5-8, in New Orleans, La.
