Lady Eagles Play Third Consecutive Road Game, Travel To Tulane

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team continues its four-game road swing, traveling to Tulane Thursday. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m., tip-off.
The Lady Eagle game can be heard on WXHB-FM 96.5 with the "Voice of the Lady Eagles" Josh West providing play-by-play action with former coach Kay James as the color analyst.
Southern Miss is 17-8 overall and 10-2 league play following a 69-61 win at Marshall. Andrea Barber scored a career-high 18 points, while Stephanie Helgeson added 17 second half points. Amber Eugene and Pauline Love added 14 and 10 points, respectively. Love also grabbed 11 boards for her 18th double-double of the season.
Love continues to lead the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, while Helgeson is averaging 10.6 points.
As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 69.2 points and 40.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 45.6 percent from the field and 67.8 percent from the line. The Lady Eagles have connected on 105-of-3015 from behind the arc.
Tulane comes into the game with a 14-12 record overall and 6-6 in league play, after a 62-54 loss at Rice. Brett Benzio recorded her eighth double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Coach Lisa Stockton is in her 15th season at the helm. Brittany Lindsey leads the team in scoring with 11.7 points per game, while Brett Benzio leads the team in rebounding, averaging 9.7 rebounds per game. The Green Wave is averaging 65.2 points and 38.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 40.4 percent from the field and 64.8 percent from the charity stripe. Tulane's defense is only allowing 60.0 points per game, the best in Conference USA, while ranking first in steals.
This is the 57th meeting between the two teams and Southern Miss leads the series 31-25 dating back to the 1977 season.
Following the Tulane game, the Lady Eagles conclude their road trip, playing at UTEP Feb. 21 at 8 p.m.
The 2009 Conference USA Women's Basketball Championship is set to get underway on March 5-8 in New Orleans. For the past 13 years the league has awarded the championship trophy to eight different outstanding teams.
