HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The late afternoon Saturday practice for the Southern Miss football team took place in unfamiliar surroundings as they team went inside in continuing preparations for the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl next weekend.
The Golden Eagles utilized the Payne Center on the Southern Miss campus for a one hour, 45 minute practice in shorts and shoulder pads and second-year coach Larry Fedora thought his team adjusted to its surroundings well during the workout. It is the first time Southern Miss has used the facility under Fedora.
"I thought they did a nice job," Fedora said. "They knew we had to get something accomplished and they were focused in. We did about as good a job as we could have considering the circumstances."
Rain fell in the Hattiesburg area all day on Saturday and the move was made so that the team could continue work for the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, in a game slated for a week from Sunday. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m., in the Louisiana Superdome.
"It was pouring down rain and I wanted to get something done," Fedora added. The game is set for 7:30 p.m., at the Louisiana Superdeom and can be heard on the Southern Miss ISP Sports Network as well as being televised on ESPN.
Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-800-844-TICK (8425), or going online at SouthernMiss.com as well as visiting the Pat Ferlise Ticket Office, Monday-through-Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Cost for the tickets are $40.
