Southern Miss looks to earn its first road-victory of the season when the Lady Eagles travel to Charlotte for a 12 p.m., tip against the 49ers on Saturday.
The Lady Eagles enter the contest with a 4-4 record following a 69-53 win over in-state foe Alcorn State, Dec. 4. Pauline Love led the way with 18 points and 16 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. Tanesha Washington and Erin Gatling scored 15 and 14 points, respectively, and Robin Murphy added 10 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double.
Love continues to lead the team in scoring and rebounding with 18.0 points and 13.5 rebounds per game, while Washington is averaging 10.5 points per outing.
As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 66.9 points and 41.5 rebounds per game while shooting 43.0 percent from the field and 67.1 percent from the line.
Charlotte, winners of its last three games, owns a 4-5 overall record following a 64-62 win over Western Carolina Tuesday night. Ashley Spriggs scored 18 points with Kendria Holmes and Shannon McCallum adding 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Coach Karen Aston, entering her third season, returned nine letterwinners including three starters from last year's team that finished 23-9 and earning a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
McCallum leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 12.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game average. Aysha Jones also averages double digits at 10.0 points per outing. As a team, the 49ers are averaging 61.9 points and 41.6 rebounds while shooting 37.3 percent from the field and 64.5 percent from the line.
This is the first meeting between the two teams since Jan. 30, 2005. Southern Miss leads the overall series 17-3. Charlotte won the last three meetings between the two teams.
Following the Charlotte game, the Lady Eagles travel to Nashville, Tenn., to play Belmont on Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.
