HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss used a two-hour practice here Wednesday afternoon to get ready for its big Conference USA East Division tilt this Saturday against East Carolina.
Game time is set for 12:30 p.m., from Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium in Greenville, N.C. The game will be televised on CBS College Sports (Comcast Digital Cable 735 in Hattiesburg as well as channel 613 on DirecTV and channel 152 on DISH network). The game also can be heard on the Southern Miss ISP Sports Network.
The game will decide the East Division crown and who will play either Houston or SMU next week in the C-USA title game. Southern Miss enters the contest with a 7-4 overall record and 5-2 in league play, while ECU is 7-4 and 6-1.
The Golden Eagles motto over the last few weeks has been to "finish" everything they do. That motto has been flashed onto scoreboards during practice and worn as wristbands on the players and coaches as well as put up on each player's locker.
Fedora said after practice Wednesday that not only is that slogan displayed it also is talked about frequently both on and off the field.
"We talk about it every single day and in every meeting as well as throughout every practice and during every period," Fedora said. "Everything we are doing is about finishing."
The Golden Eagles, which have already clinched their 16-straight winning season, look to win an eighth game for the first time since the 2006 season when they captured their first and only East Division crown.
