HUNTINGTON, WV - The Southern Miss soccer team traveled the longest road in Conference USA over the weekend with games at East Carolina and Marshall, and fell in a 3-1 game at Marshall this afternoon.
"We had a good effort on a very hard road trip in C-USA," head coach Scott Ebke said. "We have to learn from our mistakes this week in our training and get ready to face a very talented Colorado College team at home Friday."
Southern Miss fell behind early as Marshall scored the games opening goal in the sixth minute for a 1-0 advantage.
The Herd added to their second goal of the afternoon in the 28th minute but Southern Miss was able to crack the scoreboard right before the half in the 33rd minute.
Freshman Tricia Tillman scored her second goal of the weekend as she converted a shot far post from Sarah DeFatta to cut the Marshall lead in half at 2-1.
"Trish is learning what we are expecting out of her and evolving into that role. I think that her teammates have recognized this and are starting to look to get her the ball," Ebke said.
Marshall added a late goal in the 70th minute to make the score 3-1 and retake control of the game.
For Southern Miss, the offense is still looking to hit their stride in C-USA play.
"We are creating a lot chances, but we have to look to finish and play more consistent over longer periods of time," Ebke added.
The Golden Eagles return home for their final home series of the weekend beginning on Friday with Colorado College.
