Women's Basketball Continues Conference Play On The Road

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team heads back on the road, traveling to UAB for a Thursday matchup at 7 p.m., then on to Memphis to conclude a three-game road swing to start Conference USA play.
The Lady Eagle game can be heard on WXHB-FM 96.5 with the new "Voice of the Lady Eagles" Josh West providing play-by-play action with former coach Kay James as the color analyst.
Southern Miss is 7-7, 0-1 after a 65-59 loss at UCF to open C-USA action. The loss snapped a 12-game winning streak against UCF. Pauline Love led the way with 22 points and 13 rebounds for her four consecutive double-double, while Andrea Barber added 13 points in the loss.
Love continues to lead the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.9 points and 10.6 rebounds per game, while Helgeson is averaging 10.1 points.
As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 68.3 points and 41.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 44.9 percent from the field and 66.2 percent from the line. The Lady Eagles have connected on 59-of-192 from behind the arc.
UAB comes into the game with a 6-8 record and 1-0 in league play, after a 71-62 win at Memphis in the opening weekend. Amanda Peterson and Britney Jones combined for 46 of the 17 points. The duo connected on 11-of-17 three-pointers in that game.
Head Coach Audra Smith is in her fifth season at the helm and returns eight letterwinners, including three starters from last year's team. Britney Jones leads UAB in scoring with 15.7 points, while averaging 3.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. Amanda Peterson is averaging 12.8 points per game and Fatiha Salaam rounds out the double-digit scorers at 11.7 points. The Blazers are averaging 61.4 points and 37.1 rebounds per game, while shooting 35.8 percent from the field and 68.9 percent from the charity stripe. UAB has connected on 85-of-250 three-pointers.
This is the 45th meeting between the two teams and Southern Miss leads the series with UAB, 30-14, having won the last five meetings between the two teams.
Following the UAB game, the Lady Eagles continue on the road to play at Memphis, Saturday at 2 p.m.
