Volleyball Falls to Tulsa In Four

TULSA, Okla. - Ashley Petrinec and Angela Hlavaty recorded double figure kills, 13 and 12, but it was not enough as Tulsa handed Southern Miss its fifth loss of the season with a 3-1 (27-25, 19-25, 27-25, 25-19) victory Friday.
Southern Miss (10-5, 0-2) finished the match with 50 kills, 48 digs and 13.0 team blocks, however, Tulsa (14-2, 2-0) out hit Southern Miss .110 to .056.
Petrinec added 11 digs to record her second-straight double-double. Maia Ivanova also tallied 11 digs. Sarah Jane Bowden and Lauren Sears combined for 13 total blocks.
Southern Miss rallied from 24-20 deficit in set one to tie the set at 24-24, before Tulsa was able to take the set 27-25.
With the score tied 17-17, the Golden Eagles ran off five straight points to take a 22-17 lead then held on for the 25-19 win in set two.
Southern Miss held a 21-15 advantage before Tulsa scored consecutive points to tie the set a 21-21. From there, the teams battled back and forth before Tulsa ended the set with a kill and a block at the net for a 27-25 win.
Tulsa jumped out early in the fourth set and did not allow the Golden Eagles to get on track offensively on its way to a 25-19 win.
Southern Miss continues its road swing, travels to SMU for a match at 1 p.m., Sunday.
