Tyler Conn Earns First Team All-American Honors

LINCOLN, Neb. - Southern Miss closer Tyler Conn was named a Pro-Line Athletic First Team All-American by the National College Baseball Writers Association the organization announced today.
Conn converted every save opportunities on the season, 18 total, to lead the NCAA as well as set the Southern Miss and Conference USA single season save mark. He was also one of five finalists for the NCBWA's Stopper of the year award and named first team All-Conference USA in his senior campaign.
Conn becomes the tenth Southern Miss player to earn All-American honors under head coach Corky Palmer, in total 10 players have garnered 25 All-American honors.
Nine players have also been named freshman All-American including Todd McInnis who was named a freshman All-American this season.
Conn was drafted in the 14th round last week in the 2008 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the Detroit Tigers and should begin his professional career in the coming weeks.
In addition to his 18 saves this season he was 1-0 with a 1.72 ERA while striking out 42 batters in 36.2 innings of work. Conn was the anchor of the Southern Miss bullpen that was 36-1 on the season when leading after six innings.
A total of 56 college baseball players from every part of the country is featured on the 13th Annual Pro-Line Athletic National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-America Team
The 2008 NCBWA All-America Team is comprised of teams from 19 different conferences including four players from C-USA. Tulane junior P Shooter Hunt, the C-USA Pitcher of the Year was also named as a first team All-American, while East Carolina senior C Corey Kemp, the C-USA Player of the Year, and UAB senior 1B Ryan Keedy, the runner-up for C-USA Player of the Year, were both named to the third team.
