Southern Miss vs. New Orleans May 30, 2008 - Alex Box Stadium, Baton Rouge, La. Postgame Notes
* The Golden Eagles began play in their ninth overall regional as well as their school-record sixth consecutive postseason appearance. The first-ever postseason contest for the Golden Eagles came at Alex Box Stadium on May 24, 1990, in a 23-5 loss to Southern California.
* Southern Miss is now 4-5 in NCAA regional-opening games and are 9-16 overall. Southern Miss has now won at least one contest in the Baton Rouge Regional in all three times they have been to Baton Rouge (1990, 2004 and 2008).
* The Golden Eagles also won their first game here in 2004, beating the College of Charleston, 6-5.
* It was the second time Southern Miss has opened NCAA play against a team from the state of Louisiana. The Golden Eagles dropped a 2003 opener in the Hattiesburg Regional to Southern, 5-3.
* The Golden Eagles now are 35-1 when they have led in the contest after six innings.
* Brian Dozier played in his 61st consecutive game this season. He has only missed two innings all season.
* Trey Sutton extended his hitting streak to eight games with a solo home run to left field in the seventh inning. It was Sutton's first home run since May 3 against Marshall.
* Drew Carson then clubbed his team-leading 13th homer to give the Golden Eagles consecutive homers hit for the first time this season.
* Michael Ewing added a three-run blast in that seventh inning to mark the first three-HR frame for USM this season.
* The Golden Eagles collected their first double-digit hit game in four contests (the last time coming when they tallied 12 in the UCF contest on May 21). It was the 34th time this season Southern Miss has tallied at least 10 hits in a contest.
* Southern Miss has now won two of three meetings with the Privateers this season as it was the 88th overall meeting between the two schools since the inception of the series in 1970. UNO leads 48-40 in the series.
* It was just the second time this season the Golden Eagles scored five or more runs in two innings in a contest this season. The other came against Memphis on May 9. USM scored five runs in both the fourth and seventh frames against the Privateers.
