HATTIESBURG, Miss - After completing the weekend series sweep over Conference USA foe Houston and a two game sweep over in-state rival Mississippi State the Golden Eagles have once again cracked the national polls with a No. 28 ranking by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and a No. 29 Ranking by the National College Baseball Writers Association.
For the third consecutive week the Golden Eagles have five games on the schedule in the next seven days. The final mid-week home contest of the season is scheduled for Tuesday with University of New Orleans at 6:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles will then hit the road for a mid-week game on Wednesday at Southeastern Louisiana.
Southern Miss will return to Conference USA play this weekend as they visit Marshall for the three-game weekend series in Charleston, West Virginia.
Southern Miss has been ranked as high as No. 20 earlier this season and has either been in the polls or received votes every week since the pre-season polls were released in January.
The Golden Eagles (31-13, 9-6 CUSA) are currently second in the C-USA standings (by the win column) and boast an RPI of 10 (warrennolan.com) in one poll and 15 (boydsworld.com) in another.
The team picked up their 30th win of the season on Saturday over Houston, marking the seventh straight season the Golden Eagles have won at least 30 games and the 10th time in Corky Palmer's 11 seasons at the helm.
