Men's Tennis Team Downs Troy, 5-2

TROY, Ala. - Southern Miss men's tennis team won four of the six singles and captured the doubles' point in defeating Troy, 5-2, in tennis action Sunday.
Southern Miss (8-12) won its third straight match on the week.
The Golden Eagles opened the match by sweeping the doubles' point. Jan Burmeister and Andrew Poole downed Benjamin Chomette and Andrey Morozov at No. 2, 8-5 and Oscar Machuca and Strate Krstevski knocked off Gulherme Sahadi and Dai Edwards-Evans at No. 3, 8-5. Diego Machuca and Markus Wessinghage was leading,7-6, before Bastian Maucher and Mario Silva retired.
Troy came back to take a 2-1 lead, following wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Poole lost, 6-2, 6-2, to Chomette, while Burmeister lost to Silva, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
The Golden Eagles finished off the match, winning singles' matches, No. 3-6. Diego Machuca defeated Sahadi, 6-3, 6-4, followed by Oscar Machuca defeating Maucher, 6-4, 6-1.
Wessinghage then won his sixth-consecutive match, posting a 7-6, 6-4, win over Andrey Morozov. Krstevski finished the match with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-0, come-from-behind win over Edwin van Aerts.
Southern Miss returns to action when the Golden Eagles host Memphis at 1 p.m., at the Hattiesburg Country Club.
