Lady Eagles Close Out Regular Season on the Road

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team will play close out its regular on the road with two critical road games at Memphis Thursday and UAB Saturday. The games will be broadcasted over WXHB-FM 96.5 with the "Voice of the Lady Eagles" Jason Baker providing play-by-play action with former coach Kay James as the color analyst.
Southern Miss (16-11, 7-7) is coming off a 72-57 win over Tulane, in which Pauline Love recorded her 17th double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Stephanie Helgeson scored 17 points followed by Kendra Reed with 15 and Amber Eugene added 13. Despite 18 first-half turnover, Southern Miss managed to hold a one-point half time lead. The Lady Eagles finished the game shooting 52.7 percent.
Love continues to lead the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.6 and 11.0, respectively, while Helgeson is next at 12.0, followed by Kendra Reed at 11.6 and Amber Eugene at 10.2. Andrea Barber leads the team in assists with 6.6 per game. She currently leads the league in assists.
As a team, the Lady Eagles are averaging 73.1 points and 39.7 rebounds, while shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 75.8 percent from the line. Southern Miss has connected on 142-of-387 threes for 36.7 percent.
Memphis (14-12, 4-9) is coming off a 61-59 win at East Carolina, in which Paris Leonard drew a charge with 0.5 seconds remaining in the game to seal Memphis' first-ever win at East Carolina. Jessica Jackson led Memphis with 18 points, 12 in the first half, adding nine rebounds and four blocks in 31 minutes. Leonard finished with 14 points, while freshman G Alex Winchell finished with 10 points and two assists in 38 minutes of play.
Jessica Hall leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.7 points per game, while Ashley Thornton leads the team in rebounding at 7.2 per game.
As a team, the Lady Tigers are averaging 66.6 points and 39.5 rebounds, while shooting 38.1 percent from the field and 66.3 percent from the line.
This is 45th meeting between the two teams, dating back to the 1973-74 season. Memphis leads the series 23-21. Southern Miss has won the last five meetings.
Following the Memphis game, Southern Miss closes out the regular season at UAB Saturday.
