Baseball Continues Homestand Tuesday and Wednesday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - - The University of Southern Mississippi baseball team will continue with its current five-game homestand with contest vs. Louisiana Monroe on Tuesday and South Alabama on Wednesday. Both games are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Pete Taylor Park.
The Golden Eagles opened the 2008 season with a three-game sweep of Lipscomb this past weekend, winning their 11th consecutive game at "The Pete" dating back to the UAB series of the 2007 season.
Tuesday's game vs. Louisiana Monroe will be a part of the season long $2 Tuesday Promotion, where all bleacher seats are $2 for every Tuesday game (except Mississippi State).
In this weeks National College Baseball Writers Association Poll the Golden Eagles jumped four spots from No. 33 to No. 29. Southern Miss is led at the plate by All-American Trey Sutton, who has hit is 24 straight games dating back to the Tulane series last season, and preseason All-Conference selection Brian Dozier who is hitting .455 early in the season. Kyle Maxie has also contributed to the Southern Miss offense with four hits so far this season.
Louisiana Monroe will come into Pete Taylor Park 3-0 after a three-game sweep at Nicholls State this past weekend. South Alabama is currently 2-1 defeating Fairfield and Xavier before falling to No.20 Kentucky in the Coca-Cola Classic at Stanky Field last weekend.
Southern Miss will hit the road for an eight-game road trip begging this weekend and will not return to "The Pete" until March 14th.
