Men's Tennis Falls To No. 70 UNLV, 6-1

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Southern Miss men's tennis team lost its opening match in the UNLV Classic to host No. 70 UNLV, 6-1.
The Rebels earned the doubles' point, winning at No. 1 and No. 2. Elliott Wronski and Wesley Burrows (UNLV) downed Andrew Poole and Markus Wessinghage, 8-1, while Luca Barlocci and David Campbell (UNLV) defeated Domagoj Anic and Diego Machuca, 8-4. Jan Burmeister and Oscar Machuca knocked off Brian Miller and Matthew Kunkel (UNLV), 8-6, No. 3.
The Golden Eagles got a win at No. 6 singles, when Diego Machuca defeated Andrew Giuffrida (UNLV) in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.
Four of the singles went three sets. Wronski (UNLV) fought back from a set down to defeated Poole, 6-7, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1. Oscar Machuca came up short against Barlocci (UNLV), 1-6, 6-7, 1-0 (10-4), while Strate Krestevski lost to David Campbell (UNLV), 7-5, 1-6, 6-3. Burmeister dropped his match to Miller (UNLV), 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Burrows (UNLV) defeated Anic, 6-2, 6-3.
Southern Miss returns to action Saturday, playing against St. Mary's (Calif.) College.
