HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Even though Southern Miss will not know who its opponent in the Dec. 21 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl will be until later in the day, it did not stop the team from going through a two-hour workout at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at Roberts Stadium Saturday morning.
The Golden Eagles (6-6) will play the winner of the Troy/Arkansas State game, which happens later in the day. Southern Miss has not played Troy since a 42-19 victory over the Trojans to start the 1977 season and defeated Arkansas State, 27-24, in Jonesboro earlier this season.
Southern Miss went through its second of 12 schedule bowl practices in full pads and worked on individual fundamental drills as well as giving younger players a chance to work in some plays.
"The guys were moving around well this morning," said first-year coach Larry Fedora. "The practice gives the team a break during finals."
The team will go through one more workout tomorrow before concentrating solely on final exams over the next several days. After Sunday's practice, the Golden Eagles will not return to the field until next Friday.
Tickets for the game are $40 for sidelines and $20 for students and can be purchased through the Pat Ferlise Athletic Ticket Office on West 4th St., from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, over the phone at 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or online at SouthernMiss.com. The priority ticket deadline is Thursday, Dec. 11, at 5 p.m.
