HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team returned to the practice field this afternoon in preparation for the December 21st R+L New Orleans Bowl game.
The Golden Eagles worked out in full pads for a little over two hours at the Joe P. Park Practice facility on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi in cool temperatures that hovered in the lower 50's through most of the afternoon.
"We had a good practice this afternoon," head coach Larry Fedora said. "We have been off all week except for running and lifting so we are just trying to get back into the flow of everything."
Today marks the first time that the Golden Eagles have worked out as a team since learning of their bid to play in the New Orleans Bowl though their Sun Belt Conference opponent for the bowl game has not been announced.
Southern Miss will continue bowl preparations this weekend with practices scheduled for Saturday and Sunday before taking time off for finals exams next week.
Without knowing their New Orleans bowl opponent the Golden Eagles used today's workout to get some of the younger Eagles into the mix.
"We are going to use the three practices this weekend to focus more on the younger guys and then we will get after it starting next weekend (after final exams) to get ready for the bowl game," Fedora added.
Tickets for the game are $40 for sidelines and $20 for students and can be purchased through the Pat Ferlise Athletic Ticket Office on West 4th St., from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, over the phone at 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or online at SouthernMiss.com.
