Lady Eagles Host Southeast Missouri State In Basketball Action

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team hosts Southeast Missouri State in a first-ever meeting between the two schools at 4 p.m., Saturday. Former Southern Miss assistant coach John Ishee is the currently head coach of the Redhawks.
The game will be broadcast over WXHB-FM 96.5 with the new "Voice of the Lady Eagles" Josh West providing play-by-play action with former coach Kay James as the color analyst.
Southern Miss (4-4) is coming off an 80-71 win over cross-town opponent William Carey. Tanesha Washington and Stephanie Helgeson scored 18 points each in the win, while Pauline Love recorded her fifth double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Love continues to lead the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 12.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game while Stephanie Helgeson is averaging 11.5 points.
Through eight games, Southern Miss is averaging 65.8 points and 41.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 43.9 percent from the field and 67.5 percent from the line. The Lady Eagles have connected on 33-of-113 from behind the arc.
Southeast Missouri State comes in with a 4-4 record, following a 73-54 win over Bethel College that snapped a four-game losing streak. In that game, Tarina Nixon led the Redhawks in scoring for the fourth-straight game as she finished with a game-high 22 points. She went 6-8 from the field (2-3 from three-point) and a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line.
Southern Miss graduate and head coach John Ishee is in his third season and returns 10 letterwinners, including three starters, from last year's team that finished 23-9 and a first round WNIT appearance. Seven of the returning letterwinners are seniors. Three Redhawks pace the team in scoring led by Crysta Glenn, Tarina Nixon and Sonya Daugherty, all averaging in double digits. Glenn also leads the team in rebounding at 8.3 caroms per game. The Redhawks are averaging 58.1 points and 35.4 rebounds per game. SEMO is forcing its opponents into 20.6 turnovers per game.
This is the first meeting between the two teams.
Following the Southeast Missouri State game, Southern Miss concludes its three-game homestand with a game against Mississippi State, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m.
