SOUTHERN MISS GOLDEN EAGLE FOOTBALL POST GAME NOTES VS SMU Dallas, Texas November 29, 2008
* Team Captains for today's game were junior running back Damion Fletcher, junior defensive back Andre Watson and sophomore defensive back Justin Wilson
* Senior Ryan McKee started his 39th consecutive game on the offensive line
* Freshman Austin Davis surpassed the school's passing attempt record for a season (394) with a 39 yard completion to Leroy Banks in the first quarter. He ended the game with 409 compete
* The 39 yard reception by Banks was the longest of his career.
* Sophomore Johdrick Morris caught his first career touchdown pass in the first quarter, a two-yard pass from Davis
* Southern Miss scored on the opening drive for the fourth time this season and scored a touchdown for the third time. The Golden Eagles also scored touchdowns vs. UL and UAB. They converted a field goal on the opening drive vs. Arkansas State.
* Junior Damion Fletcher broke the school's career record for carries with a two-yard rush in the second quarter for his 769th career carry breaking Derrick Nix mark set from 1998-2000 and 2002. He finished the day with 19 carries giving him 788 for his career
* Southern Miss set a team record for pass attempts in a season in the second quarter, passing the previous record of 409 set in 2005. They finished the game with 26 passes in the game 423
* Austin Davis threw his first interception in 95 attempts dating back to the Memphis game on October 25th
* Southern Miss is 6-0 this season when going into halftime with the lead. They led at the half 7-6
* Southern Miss held SMU to only nine yards rushing in the first half, the lowest total of the season for a half
* Gerald Baptiste caught a 44 yard touchdown pass from Davis in the third quarter, his first TD reception of the season and second of his career. Both of his career TD pass receptions have came in the state of Texas with a TD reception last season at UTEP as well
* Fletcher rushed for his 35th career touchdown in the third quarter. He needs only five more touchdowns to break the school's career TD mark.
* The Golden Eagles have not trailed at any point since the first quarter of the UCF game, a streak that included 11 quarters and three games.
* Martez Smith intercepted his first career pass in the third quarter
* Freshman DeAndre Brown tied the single-season career reception mark (66) with his three catches today
* Sophomore VJ Floyd added his second touchdown of the season and his second career touchdown with a two-yard run on the opening play of the fourth quarter
* Eddie Hicks intercepted his fourth pass of the season, tying his for team lead. It was his eighth interception of his career.
* Southern Miss has forced two or more turnover in five straight games and had nine total games with at least two turnovers. They have also had seven consecutive with at least one turnover
* Southern Miss allowed a touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter, the first TD allowed since the first quarter of the UCF game a streak that lasted over nine quarters and 154:07 of game time.
* SMU attempted and failed at the two-point conversion, the Golden Eagles have not allowed a touchdown and extra point since the third quarter of the UAB game
* Southern Miss held SMU to only nine yards rushing in the first half and minus five yards in the second half for 4 total rushing yards in the game for the Mustangs, the lowest total of the season for an opponent
* Southern Miss has limited their opponents under 100 rushing yards in each of the last four games, the first time they have accomplished that since the first five games of the 2001 season
* With today's win Southern Miss becomes bowl eligible for the 15th consecutive season. The Golden Eagles have appeared in six consecutive bowls and in 11 of the last 12 years
