Women's Basketball Team Travels To Louisiana-Monroe

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team wraps up two game road swing, plays at Louisiana-Monroe on Tuesday. The game time is set for a 5:30 p.m., tip and will be broadcast over WXHB-FM 96.5 with the new "Voice of the Lady Eagles" Josh West providing play-by-play action with former coach Kay James as the color analyst.
Southern Miss (2-1) is coming off a 66-64 loss at South Alabama when the Lady Jags converted on two free throws with four seconds remaining, edging the Lady Eagles. Stephanie Helgeson scored a team-high 18 points to go with 10 rebounds, followed by Tanesha Washington with 11 points and Amber Eugene chipped in 10 points in the loss.
Helgeson leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.3 points, followed by Pauline Love at 11.3 and a team-leading 10.7 rebounds and Candace Rucker at 11.0 points.
In three games, Southern Miss is averaging 71.7 points and 44.0 rebounds, while shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 68.9 percent from the line.
ULM (3-1) comes into the game following a 69-67 win over Marshall in the championship game of the Fifth Third Classic. Jesse Carrier, who finished with 19 points, hit the game-winning three in the final seconds on her way to earning MVP honors.
ULM is coming off a 17-13 season as Head Coach Mona Martin begins her 14th season at the helm of the Warhawk program. Martin returns seven letterwinners from last year's team to go with eight newcomers. The Warhawks comes into the game having won their last three. Only one player averages double figures, Jesse Carrier at 10.8 points per game, while Lottie Moore leads the team in rebounding with a 7.3 average. The Warhawks are averaging 60.5 points and 42.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 37.1 percent from the field and 57.3 percent from the line. ULM has connected on 23-of-63 from behind the arch.
Southern Miss leads the series with South Alabama, 13-6, snapping a three-game losing streak last season.
Following the ULM game, Southern Miss returns home to host its annual Lady Eagle Classic, Nov. 28-29, which includes Alcorn State, Belmont and Michigan.
