Golden Eagles Face Uphill Battle after Day One of Memphis Collegiate

Memphis, Tenn. - The Southern Miss men's golf team looks to pull itself out of a hole in the final round of the Memphis Intercollegiate. The tournament is hosted by the University of Memphis and is being played at Colonial Country Club.
Senior Rocky Cleland leads the Golden Eagles, tying for 20th-place after shooting a five-over par 74-75. Redshirt junior Paul Apyan and redshirt freshman Darren Chapman are tied for 33rd-place at eight-over par. Apyan shot a pair of 76's while Chapman fired rounds of 78-74. Junior Tyler Sparts shot a 78-84 and a tie for 80th-place, while junior Alex Park is tied for 87th-place after shooting rounds of 83-82.
Ohio State's Vaughn Snyder is six-under to lead after two rounds. Ole Miss' Sean Dale, Xavier's Sebastian MacLean and Marc-Ettiene Bussieres of South Alabama are all tied for second at even par.
Ohio State leads the team scoring with 588 strokes (299-289). Host school Memphis is in second-place with 591 (299-292). In third place sits Mississippi State (301-293) with 594 strokes. Louisville is in fourth, shooting 597 (301-296). Maryland is in fifth with 599 strokes (300-299). Xavier (298-302) and South Alabama (301-299) are tied for sixth with 600 strokes. Ole Miss (299-302) and Arkansas State (302-299) are tied for eighth with 601 strokes.
Rice is in tenth with 602 (304-298) strokes, followed by Wisconsin (309-301 - 610), Louisiana-Lafayette (309-303 - 612), Southern Miss (306-307 - 613), Arkansas-Little Rock (309-304 - 613), Louisiana Tech (314-302 - 616) and South Florida (308-317 - 625).
Southern Miss closes out the tournament tomorrow. Play begins at 8:00 a.m.
