Volleyball Falls To Memphis, 3-1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Southern Miss volleyball team lost its fourth match, falling to Memphis 3-1 (25-20, 25-11, 22-25, 25-20) in Conference USA action Sunday afternoon.
Junior Angela Hlavaty paced the Golden Eagles (13-11, 3-8) with 13 kills to go with 11 digs, while Lauren Sears added 11 kills with an attack percentage of .345. Maia Ivanova led the defense with 15 digs followed by Ashley Petrinec with 11.
Emily Underwood led Memphis (15-10, 6-5) with a match-high 15 kills, followed by Katlin Inglish and Lauren Thompson with 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Christine Bach registered a match-high 21 and Laura Cote added 14 digs.
Southern Miss opened set one, popping out to 5-3 lead before Memphis knotted the set 5-all. From there, the set was tied 12 more times with the last coming at 18-18. Memphis then used a 7-2 run to close out the set, 25-20.
After three ties and one lead change to begin set two, before Memphis used a 5-0 run to push its lead to 11-5. From there, Memphis took advantage of timely hitting as well as several Golden Eagle miscues for a 25-11 win.
Southern Miss opened set three running out to a 6-1 lead before Memphis fought back with an 8-3 run to tie the set at 9-9. From there, both team battled back and forth. With the score tied at 19-19, Southern Miss finished the set with a 6-3 run for a 25-22 win.
Memphis used a 5-0 run midway through set four in closing out the match, 25-20. The Tigers out-hit Southern Miss, .325 to .098.
The Golden Eagles return to action when they host UTEP, Oct. 30. The match has been designated as the "Dip Pink" match.
