Soccer Loses Heartbreaker to Tulsa in Double- Overtime

HATTIESBURG, Miss - Tulsa scored the game winning goal just minutes into the second overtime period to defeat Southern Miss 2-1 Friday evening at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.
"This is a truly disappointing loss for us today," head coach Scott Ebke said. "We played well and created a lot of good opportunities this afternoon. You have to give credit to Tulsa, they scored goals when they had the opportunity."
Southern Miss controlled the game for most of the afternoon taking 17 shots to Tulsa's seven. The Golden Eagles had eight shots on goal to the Hurricane's three, two of which found the back of the net.
After a scoreless first half Southern Miss struck quickly in the second period. Amy Skeet tallied her first goal of the season on an assist from Bianca Ontiveros, who feed a perfect pass from the right wing that Skeet converted the games first goal just 2:20 seconds into the second period.
The Golden Eagles held the lead as time was nearing expiration before Tulsa's Sarah Green tied the game from a shot inside the box past Southern Miss keeper Holly Cox in the 85th minute.
The two teams remained scoreless after the first overtime period and Rachel Robinson converted the golden goal with less than nine minutes remaining in the game to seal the Hurricane victory.
Southern Miss will hit the road on Sunday as they travel to SMU for another C-USA match up.
