During the 2007 NFL Europa season, SouthernMiss.com will bring you exclusive insight into former Golden Eagle football player Jeremy Parquet's travels overseas as a member of the Hamburg Sea Devils of NFL Europa as he checks in weekly with former Southern Miss alumni, Joe Trahan, who will also be in Germany covering the team and Parquet.
Jeremy Parquet signing in. Blog number six. Today is the fourth of May, around 2 o'clock and I'm in my room just relaxing after getting done with practice. Today wasn't a real physical practice, it was just more of refining our gameplan for the game Sunday against the Rhein Fire.
Last week in Frankfurt against the Galaxy we had a rough game. We started off kind of slow, and we started rolling too late and we wound up losing again. It's real frustrating when you're losing and you're practicing hard. But we're getting ready to turn it around this week against Rhein and get this `W,' then get two `W's' against Amsterdam back-to-back and we should be fine.
I'm not complaining. I'm enjoying myself over here, but my body's kind of sore, but I'll be okay. It's nothing, but you've got to just grind through it. We're 1-2 right now and we have seven games to go on the schedule, so if we go on a roll these next seven games or so and do our thing, we should wind up in the World Bowl playing for the championship over here.
The food is - I don't know. Some days it's decent. Some days it's not. For example: today for lunch we had crab cakes and jalapeno peppers - and all this is fried - and some kind of pasta, but it didn't have any kind of additive to it. So it was like eating bland pasta and peas. I'm not worried about it though.
My wife will be here Tuesday morning. She will be here for a week. I haven't seen her in a month and a half, or so - and I haven't seen my little boy either, but he's too small to travel. The flight from back home to here is about nine hours and I don't want him to get on the plane and get sick or get real irritated and have to be on the plane for nine hours. I don't want that to happen.
That's pretty much what's going on with me over here. I'm just trying to make it happen. We're 1-2 with two devastating defeats with the last one being 17-20, but we came back and could have beat them. Almost is not good enough. Almost does not count.
Our next game is Sunday, and I think it's going to be back on t.v. back at home on the NFL Network on Monday, May 7 at 1 a.m. EST. So if you guys get a chance to check it out - check it out. Right tackle number 73, Jeremy Parquet. Signing out.
-Jeremy
