ORLANDO, Fla. - Pitcher Allison Kime struck out 11 Lady Eagle batters to record the 5-0 win over Southern Miss in the final game of the weekend series, today, at the UCF Softball Complex.
UCF was the first team to score in the contest and all the offense the team needed, following a single by pitcher Allison Kime that scored Cici Alavarez, who had reached first base on a fielding error by Samantha Davis.
The Golden Knights added another run in the fourth inning when Breanne Javier singled to center field, reached second following a fielding error by Lauren Castellvi and was sent home on Ashleigh Cole's single to right center.
UCF added three runs in the bottom of the sixth. The first run came when Javier intercepted with shortstop Kristin Chaney at third that resulted in an error and a score. Megan Barrow added the second run, advancing on a sacrifice fly by catcher Cat Snapp, before Kacie Feaster singled to right field to score Cole from third.
Southern Miss (10-20, 1-5) finished the contest with one hit, while UCF (20-13, 2-4) recorded eight. Megan Hill recorded the only hit for the Lady Eagles, a hard shot that hit the left field wall, resulting in a double. With the win, UCF moves above Southern Miss in Conference USA standings.
It was a pitching duel once again, with Samantha Davis (1-4) earning the starting nod on the mound for the final game for the Lady Eagles and Allison Kime (10-6) starting for the Golden Kights.
Southern Miss returns to action in a mid-week doubleheader at McNeese State on Wednesday, beginning at 4 p.m.
