McNeese State Edges Lady Eagles, 1-0, In First Meeting

LAKE CHARLES, La. - McNeese firstbaseman Jana Jones singled to left field to score Liz Morvant from third and give the Cowgirls all the offense they needed to drop Southern Miss 1-0, tonight, in the first of two meetings between the two teams.
The Lady Eagles had an opportunity to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning when catcher Kristin Pilgrim stepped to the plate with bases loaded. Pilgrim grounded out to shortstop Morvant to end the inning.
Southern Miss (10-22) left seven runners on base, while McNeese (12-21) stranded only three.
Samantha Davis (1-5) was credited with the loss for the Lady Eagles, recording three strikeouts, and Cori Bram (3-8) earned the win with four strikeouts and one walk.
Southern Miss recorded four hits in the contest, two from freshman Brandi Alonzo and one each from freshman Megan Hill and junior Kristin Chaney. McNeese finished with five hits.
