ORLANDO, Fla. - The UCF Golden Knights edged out the Southern Miss Lady Eagles 2-0, today, in the first game of the weekend series at the UCF Softball Complex.
UCF tallied one run in the first inning, following Breanne Javier's single through the right side to score Cici Alvarez from third and earn the 1-0 lead.
The Golden Knights added their final run of the game in the second inning on Kacie Feaster's double to left field, scoring Lindsay Dean, who had reached first on a walk.
Southern Miss (9-19, 0-4) finished the contest with three hits, two from freshman Megan Hill and one from freshman Brandi Alonzo, while UCF (18-12, 1-3) notched nine total hits.
Samantha Davis (1-3) made the start on the mound for the Lady Eagles, recording one strikeout and only two walks. Allison Kime (9-6) recorded the win for the Golden Knights, striking out 12 Southern Miss batters and walking only two.
