Lady Eagles Defeated by Stephen F. Austin, 12-4

WACO, Texas - The Southern Miss Lady Eagles softball team played its first game of the season today, being defeated by the Ladyjacks of Stephen F. Austin, 12-4, in the opening competition of the sixth annual Getterman Classic, hosted by Baylor.
Freshman designated player Megan Hill led the Lady Eagles to an early lead, sending the ball over the right field wall for a two-run homer. She finished the game 3-for-3, including a single, a double, a home run and two RBIs.
The Ladyjacks were able to come back with only one run in the bottom of the first, before Allison Bullard caught a deep fly ball from Heather Hebert to end the inning.
Early in the third inning, Southern Miss pitcher Shea Naramore walked two-consecutive batters, before Bria Wilson recorded a triple to give SFA a 3-2 lead.
The Lady Eagles remained scoreless until the top of fifth, scoring two, while the Ladyjacks scored a total of seven runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to close the game.
Junior center fielder Allison Bullard and sophomore catcher Kristin Pilgrim went one-for-three for Southern Miss, and freshman shortstop Brittany Wright finished 1-for-2.
Freshman first baseman Logan James replaced Naramore at pitcher for the fifth inning, moving Hill from designated player to first. James pitched a total of two at bats, and Naramore was given the loss.
Southern Miss finished with six hits and five errors, while SFA recorded seven hits and no errors.
The Lady Eagles continue play in the Getterman Classic today at 4:15 p.m., as they take on nationally ranked (No. 18) Baylor.
