BATON ROUGE, La. - Troy's Heidi Johnson hit a one-out three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning to down Southern Miss 10-4, today, at Tiger Park in the final day of LSU's Easton Purple & Gold Challenge.
The Lady Trojans added three more runs in the fifth inning on Felicia Hammer's one-out home run, scoring Robinette and Powell and clinching the victory over the Lady Eagles.
Southern Miss (4-8) entered the third inning with a 3-1 deficit, before junior Allison Bullard hit a lead-off home run and Megan Hill landed a two-out two-run homer to put the Lady Eagles ahead of the Lady Trojans 4-3.
Logan James gave Southern Miss an early lead in the game, hitting a one-out homer to left field, but Troy (9-2) came back in the bottom of the first when Johnson single up the middle, advanced to second on Stacey Dwyer's sacrifice bunt, advanced to third on a wild pitch and sent home on Jessica Lyle's single to right field. On the next play, Courtney Davis hit a home run to score Lyle and give the Lady Trojans the 3-1 lead.
Shea Naramore (3-8) recorded four strikeouts for Southern Miss, while Angela Lopez recorded one and Michelle Grinage (2-0) finished with four and the win.
The Lady Eagles finished the contest with six hits. James and Hill each recorded two, while Bullard and Prouty each finished with one.
