CLEMSON, S.C. -- - The Golden Eagles lost two matches in the second day of the Clemson Invitational.
Southern Miss lost to Clemson 7-0 in a morning match, before losing the afternoon to USC Upstate, 5-2.
"We played really well in the doubles," Head Coach Teddy Viator said. "This was probably our best doubles matches of the year."
"I thought we played well at No. 1 and No. 2 singles," said Viator. "Their No. 1 singles' player reached the NCAA quarterfinals last season. Anic played a match could have gone either way."
In the second match of the day, Southern Miss won at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Three of the singles' matches went three sets.
"I thought we competed as well as we could have, considering we played our fourth match in 2 days," Viator said. "We were just ran out of gas and we looked mentally drained."
Southern Miss returns to action on Mar. 9, when the Golden Eagles host Indiana State at 1 p.m., at the Racquet Club.
