Men's Tennis Team Drops Match At UAB, 5-2

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- - UAB won four of the singles in defeating Southern Miss, 5-2, in tennis action Saturday.
The Golden Eagles fall to 2-4, while UAB improved to 3-2.
UAB opened the match by winning two of the three doubles, earning the 1-0 lead. Andrew Poole and Will Thames lost to Kruno Despotovski and Thomas Weiss at No. 1 doubles, 8-3. Tim Bauer and Hanns Spangenberg (UAB) defeated Diego and Oscar Machuca, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles.
Domagoj Anic and Callen Fraychineaud won at No. 3 doubles, 8-5, over Alex Emery and Adrian Tollstam.
UAB increased its lead to 2-0, when Spangenberg defeated Poole at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1. The Blazers held a 3-0 lead, following a win at No. 3 singles with Bauer (UAB) defeating Diego Machuca, 6-3, 7-6 (1).
The Golden Eagles recorded their first points at No. 4 singles, when Oscar Machuca outlasted Despotovski in a three-set match, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. Anic won at No. 2 singles, defeating Weiss in three sets, 4-6, 7-6 (1), 1-0 (10-0), rounding out the Eagles' final point.
Strate Krstevski lost a three-set match to Alex Emery (UAB) at No. 5 singles, clinching the match UAB. Fraychineaud lost at No. 6 singles, 7-5, 6-4, to Thomas Petrich.
Southern Miss returns to action when the Golden Eagles travel to Clemson, S.C., for the Clemson Invitational, Feb. 23-25.
