Lady Eagles Hit the Road to Take on Louisiana Tech

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - The Southern Miss women's basketball team travels to play Louisiana Tech Saturday. Game time is set for 7 p.m., and will be broadcasted over WXHB-FM 96.5 with the "Voice of the Lady Eagles" Jason Baker providing play-by-play action with former coach Kay James as the color analyst.
Southern Miss (6-3) is coming off a 76-74 loss to South Alabama, when the Jaguars hit a shot with .4 seconds remaining, handing the Lady Eagles their third-consecutive loss. Pauline Love recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 17 points and 15 rebounds, Stephanie Helgeson also tallied 17 points, while Kendra Reed added 12.
Love continues to lead the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 18.3 and 10.4, respectively, Amber Eugene is averaging 11.4 points, while Helgeson is adding 10.4 points per game.
As a team, the Lady Eagles are averaging 78.0 points and 41.1 rebounds, while shooting 49.4 percent from the field and 73.2 percent from the line. Southern Miss has connected on 40-of-113 threes for 35.4 percent.
Louisiana Tech is 4-2, following a 62-61 win over Alabama, in which Nastassj Levingston scored 17 points off the bench. JoKeirra Sneed and Shanavia Dowdell chipped in 11 points apiece. Lady Techster coach Chris Long is in his third season at the helm of the Lady Techster program. Long returns six letterwinners from last year's squad that finished 17-13. Sneed leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging a double-double with 14.2 points and 10.2 rebounds. Three other Lady Techsters also are averaging in double figures with Whitney Jones at 11.5, Dowell 11.2 and Levingston 10.5.
As a team, Tech is averaging 75.7 points and 46.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 42.0 percent from the field and 62.0 percent from the line.
This is the third meeting between the two teams. Tech leads the series against Southern Miss, 2-0, with both wins coming in the 1990 and 1996 NCAA Tournaments
Following the La. Tech game, Southern Miss will take a few days off for final exams, before, resuming play on Dec. 15, at home against Birmingham-Southern. Game time is 2 p.m.
