Volleyball Team Loses To Marshall, 3-0

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. -- - The Southern Miss volleyball team lost to Marshall in three games by a score of 30-15, 30-20, 30-24.
Junior Ashley led Southern Miss (10-19, 1-12) with 11 kills, while Maia Ivanova tallied 11 digs. Angela Hlavaty added nine kills.
Kelly-Anne Billingy led Marshall (19-8, 12-1) with a match-high 17b kills and Stephanie Cahill added 10 kills and 15 digs. Elizabeth Fleming finished the match with 37 assists and 11 digs.
The Thundering Herd held the Lady Eagles to .057 attack percentage, while hitting .433 in taking game one, 30-15.
With Southern Miss leading, 4-3, in game two, Marshall used an 18-9 run in taking a 21-13 lead. The Lady Eagles got within six points, but Marshall ended the game on a 5-0 run for a 30-20 win.
Both teams battled back and forth in game three. There were 10 ties during the game. Southern Miss led by three points, 14-11, before Marshall rallied behind an 8-4 run to take a 19-17 lead. Southern Miss tied the game two more times, with the last coming at 21-21, before the Herd closed out the game on an 9-3 run for a 30-24 win.
Southern Miss returns to action on Sunday, when the Lady Eagles continue their road swing at East Carolina.
