Women's Basketball Team Hosts Louisiana-Monroe

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - The Southern Miss women's basketball team plays its fourth-straight home game, hosting Louisiana-Monroe at 6 p.m. The contest will be broadcast over WXHB-FM 96.5 with the "Voice of the Lady Eagles" Jason Baker providing play-by-play action with former coach Kay James as the color analyst.
Southern Miss (3-0) is coming off an 82-48 win over Mercer, in which three players scored in double figures led by Pauline Love with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Amber Eugene recorded her first double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Liz Biland chipped in 12 points.
Love leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 22 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. Three other players are averaging in double figures, Eugene at 11.7 points followed by Biland at 10.7 and Stephanie Helgeson at 10.3.
As a team, the Lady Eagles are averaging 87.7 points and 47.3 rebounds, while shooting 49.7 percent from the field. Southern Miss has connected on 18 three-pointers.
Louisiana-Monroe comes in with a 3-0 record, following a 72-66 win over Texas State. Jesse Carrier and LaJeanna Howard led the way with 15 points apiece and Regena Jackson added 13 points.
The Warhawks return 11 letterwinners, including three starters from last year's 14-16 squad. Head Coach Mona Martin is in her 13th season at the helm of the Warhawks' program. Carrier leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.0 points, while Howard is averaging 11.3 points. Lloyd leads the team in rebounding at 8.3 boards per game.
Following the ULM game, Southern Miss remains at home, hosting its annual Lady Eagle Classic, Nov. 23-24. Teams included are North Florida, Austin Peay and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Southern Miss plays North Florida at 5 p.m., followed by Austin Peay and Texas A&M-CC at 7 p.m.
