Tulsa Volleyball Team Downs Southern Miss, 3-0

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - The Southern Miss volleyball team dropped its fourth-straight match in Conference USA action on Sunday, losing to Tulsa in three games by the score of 30-26, 30-24, 35-33.
Amanda Huntoon led Southern Miss (10-14, 1-7) with 12 kills, while Maia Ivanova tallied 20 digs followed by Jillian Neave with 13 and Morgan Johnson added 10. Johnson also recorded eight blocks.
Tulsa (18-5, 6-2) placed two players in double-digit kills, led by Fabiola Nepomuceno with a match-high 21 kills and Emma Ridley added 11. Malorey Grove led the Golden Hurricane with 19 digs, followed by Nicole Boyle with 13 and Julia Silva added 10.
Tulsa led from start to finish in game one. The Golden Hurricane built an early 12-7 lead, only to see the Golden Eagles cut the lead to two on a 4-1 run. Tulsa pushed the lead to five, 21-16, on a 6-3. With Tulsa leading, 27-21, the Golden Eagles made a run to cut the lead to two, 28-26, but Hannah Stout put down a kill and Boyle ended the game with an ace for the 30-26 win.
Both teams started out strong in game two. The game featured 10 ties and two lead changes. After battling to a 14-14 tie, Southern Miss took its first lead, 17-16, behind a strong presence at the net. Southern Miss was able to push its lead to two, 24-22, only to see Tulsa end game two, scoring the last eight points for a 30-24 win and take a two-game lead.
Game three turned into a marathon game that featured 11 ties and five lead changes. Southern Miss jumped out to a 12-7 lead. Tulsa kept within striking distance and eventually tying the match at 15-15. The Lady Eagles pushed their lead back to six, following a 10-4 run. From there, Tulsa scored eight unanswered points, taking a 27-25 lead.
From there, both teams battled back and forth down the stretch. Tulsa finally took game three, 35-33.
Southern Miss hits the road, traveling to UTEP and Tulane for a weekend series.
