Women's Basketball Team Continues Four-Game Road Swing

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - Southern Miss continues its four-game road swing, traveling to Tulane on Friday for a 7 p.m., game against the Green Wave.
The game will be broadcast over WXHB-FM 96.5 with the "Voice of the Lady Eagles" Jason Baker providing play-by-play action with former coach Kay James as the color analyst. The broadcast also is available on SouthernMiss.com.
Southern Miss (11-8, 5-1) is coming off a 65-63 win over UCF. Sophomores Amber Eugene and Kendra Reed combined for 49 of the Lady Eagles' 65 points and Lauren Pittman added 10 points. Eugene also led the team with a team-high eight rebounds and six steals.
Eugene continues to team in scoring at 18.1 points per game. Reed is second on the team at 16.7 points and Emer Foley is averaging 15.7 points per game. Foley also leads the team in rebounding at 7.9 boards per game, while Chaney leads the team in assists (122) and steals (43).
As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 65.5 points and 37.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 41.9 percent from the field and 74.9 percent from the line. The Lady Eagles are shooting 33.8 percent from three-point range. Reed leads the team with 47.
Tulane (15-4, 4-2) is fresh off an 81-56 win over UTEP for its third straight win. Jami Montagnino scored a game-high 19 points, while Ashley Langford recorded a double-double with 10 points and 14 assists. Dominique Philpots also scored 10 points. The Green Wave shot an impressive 65.4 percent from the field, including 79.2 percent in the second half.
Head Coach Lisa Stockton is in her 13th season at Tulane and owns a record of 255-124.
Following the Tulane game, Southern Miss remains on the road with a game at UTEP on Sunday, Jan. 28.
SOMETHING ABOUT TULANE
Tulane is riding a three-game winning streak and has won 10 out of its last 12 games. The Green Wave has only one player averaging in double figures, Jami Montagnino at 17.2 points per game, but in Conference USA games; she is averaging 22.0 points per game. Montagnino is ranked No. 3 in the nation in free throw percentage (92.7%) and three-point field goal percentage (48.4). As a team, Tulane is averaging 71.4 points and 37.7 rebounds per game, while shooting 42.2 percent from the field and 71.8 percent from the line. Montagnino has connected on 45 of the team's 95 three-pointers.
ABOUT THE SERIES
This is the 55th meeting between the two teams and it is the longest running series with any of the 2006-07 opponents. Southern Miss leads the series with Tulane, 30-24. Southern Miss won last season's meeting, 75-60, in Hattiesburg.
