Women's Basketball Team Entertains Memphis In Conference USA Action

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - The Southern Miss women's basketball team returns home to host Memphis in C-USA action on Friday at 7 p.m., in Reed Green Coliseum.
The game will be broadcast over WXHB-FM 96.5 with the "Voice of the Lady Eagles" Jason Baker providing play-by-play action with former coach Kay James as the color analyst.
Southern Miss (8-8, 2-1) is coming off a 96-83 loss at Marshall. Sophomore Kendra Reed scored a game-high 28 points, with Emer Foley coming off the bench, scoring 18 points. Amber Eugene posted her third double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds and Anna Patterson chipped in 12 points.
Eugene continues to team in scoring at 16.5 points per game. Reed is second on the team at 16.1 points and Foley is averaging 15.7 points per game. Foley also leads the team in rebounding at 7.9 boards per game, while Kristin Chaney leads the team in assists and steals.
As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 64.5 points and 37.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 41.2 percent from the field and 73.9 percent from the line. The Lady Eagles are shooting 34.4 percent from three-point range. Reed leads the team with 37 from behind the arc.
Memphis comes into the game with a 3-14 record and 0-3 in the league, following an 87-71 loss to Tulsa. Devin Necaise paced the Lady Tigers with 18 points, Aroha Jennings had 12 and Jazmyn Green chipped in 10 points. Necaise leads the team in scoring at 12.1 points per game, while Ashley Thornton leads the team in rebounding at 7.8 boards per game.
Head Coach Blair Savage is in her third season at Memphis and returns five letterwinners, including three starters from last season.
Following the Memphis game, Southern Miss continues its homestand, hosting UAB in a nationally televised game on CSTV.
SOMETHING ABOUT MEMPHIS f¤ Memphis is looking to snap its six-game losing streak, the longest of the season, and get its first C-USA win of the season. The Lady Tigers have only two players averaging in double figures, led by senior Devin Necaise, who hails form the same high school as Southern Miss' Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis. Necaise is averaging 12.1 points and Aroha Jennings at 10.5 points per game. As a team, Memphis is averaging 62.5 points and 37.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 36.6 percent from the field and 73.8 percent from the line. Necaise leads the league in free throw percentage at 97.1 percent.
ABOUT THE SERIES f¤ This is 42nd meeting between the two teams. Memphis leads the series, 23-18, dating back to the 1973-74 season. This is the second longest series among opponents this season. Southern Miss won both meetings last season.
