Southern Miss senior golfer Justin Elliott fired a tournament record 68 in the final round of the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate on Tuesday, helping the Golden Eagles finish fifth at the par-72, 7,049-yard course.

Elliott's round bested the previous tournament record of 69, shot several times in the two-year history of the event. Southern Miss finished with a team final round of 298 to score a 909 for the event, just five shots out of second place. Elliott led the Golden Eagle contingent with his second-place finish, shooting rounds of 72 and 68 after an opening-round 80 for a total of 220.

For the season, Elliott has a 73.3 scoring average and has finished six rounds with scores of par or lower, two of them in the last tournament. He has posted top-20 finishes in all five spring events, two top-10s and two top-5s this season.
