HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss Head Men's Golf Coach Steve Johnson has announced the signing of Rob Hudson of Fayetteville, Ark., to a national letter of intent for the 2006-07 academic year. This marks the first signee of the spring period for the men's golf program.
Hudson is a standout golfer for Coach Kyle Adams at Fayetteville (Ark.) High School. He had an outstanding high school career, earning Arkansas High School Activities Association (AHSAA) all-state honors as both a junior and a senior, leading his team to a No. 5 finish in the 2005 state tournament. As a junior, Hudson led his squad to the AHSAA Class AAAAA State Tournament Title, and finished second overall in the event behind current Golden Eagle golfer Jason Cuthbertson.
"Rob is an extremely talented, athletic player," Johnson said. "He has a solid all-around game, with his distance accuracy, good long and short game. We're excited to have a player of his caliber join our program."
Hudson also has competed on the state and national junior golf circuit over his career. He posted 10 Top 10 finishes throughout his career, including finishing second in the 2005 ASGA Junior Stroke Play Championship and 10th in the prestigious Trusted Choice "Big I" Junior Classic National Finals last summer.
Hudson becomes the second Southern Miss men's golf signee overall, joining Wesley Carter of Birmingham, Ala., who signed in the early signing period last November.
