The Southern Miss softball team fell in its final two games of the Gator Invitational today, 6-3 to Seton Hall and 3-1 to Florida.
With the losses, Southern Miss falls to 12-15 on the season.
In the first game against Seton Hall, the Lady Eagles had a chance to get on the scoreboard early, but Charity Butler was called out, leaving third base early.
Seton Hall then took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, on a RBI triple by Jenna Best.
The Lady Eagles took a 2-1 lead with two runs in the third, as Ashley Brenan had a two RBI double, scoring Nicole Chisolm and Butler.
But Seton Hall answered Southern Miss' two runs with two of its own in the bottom of the third, as Leah Menichetti scored on a throwing error by Ashley Davis, before an RBI single by Katie Pierce scored Caitlin White, who singled after Menichetti led off the inning with a walk, taking a 3-2 advantage.
Southern Miss tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth, as Ashley Brenan led off with a single, went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jessica Huerta, stole third, before coming home on an illegal pitch.
But Seton Hall put the game out of reach with three runs in the bottom of the inning, on a two-RBI single by Akoua Lonergan and a RBI single by Pierce.
Southern Miss had the game tying run at the plate with one out in the seventh, but could not get additional runs across.
Kim Schweitzer (4-2) got the win for Seton Hall, tossing 6.1 innings, allowing nine hits and three runs, striking out one. Jessica Jones pitched the final 0.2 innings, walking one and striking out one.

Florida got its final run of the contest in the third, thanks to an RBI double by Howard.
Southern Miss had several chances to get closer, perhaps the best chance coming in the sixth, as the Lady Eagles loaded the bases with no outs. But Allison Bullard filed out to right, Huerta got thrown out at home, before Kristin Pilgrim popped out to end the inning.
The Lady Eagles had another opportunity in the top of the seventh, as Huerta represented the potential game-tying run, but she was called out looking to end the game.
