Men's Golf To Compete In Carter Plantation Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's golf team returns to action Monday, competing in the third annual Carter Plantation Intercollegiate hosted by Southeastern Louisiana University at the Carter Plantation in Springfield, La.
The two-day tournament features 11 teams. Along with Southern Miss and host SLU, other teams participating in the event include Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisville, Memphis, Mississippi State, South Alabama, South Florida, Texas-San Antonio and Tulane.
The field will begin with at 8 a.m., Monday with a 36-hole shotgun start. Tuesday's final round will begin with scheduled tee times ate 7:30 a.m.
The Golden Eagles, under the direction of Head Coach Steve Johnson, last competed in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, finishing tied for seventh in the rain-shortened tournament. In the event, Jason Cuthbertson shot an even-par 72 in the second round to tie for fourth. Justin Elliott tied for 20th with his two-day score of 150 (78-72), while Kyle Ramey (76-76--152) tied for 34th. Austin Bowen (79-77--156) and Danny Dennis (80-77--157) round out the team scoring, tied for 59th and 69th, respectively.
Southern Miss has competed in four events in the spring, with its best finish a pair of top-5 finishes. The team has finished second twice, at the UCF/Rio Pinar Intercollegiate and the USA Spring Golf Classic.
Following the tournament, Southern Miss takes a week off from competition before competing in the ASU Indian Classic hosted by Arkansas State. The three-round event is set for Monday and Tuesday, April 10 and 11 at the Ridgepointe Country Club in Jonesboro, Ark.
