Men's Golf To Compete In USA Spring Golf Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's golf team returns to action Monday, competing in the 2006 USA Spring Golf Classic hosted by the University of South Alabama at the Herron Lakes Country Club.
The two-day tournament features 12 teams. Along with Southern Miss and host South Alabama, other teams including in the event include Michigan, USF, Mississippi State, Mercer, Iowa, Eastern Michigan, Louisiana-Monroe, Ole Miss, Middle Tennessee and Miami of Ohio. The field will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Monday with second round action scheduled to begin immediately following the conclusion of the first. Final round action is set for Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles, under the direction of Head Coach Steve Johnson, last competed in the Hyatt Plantation Club Intercollegiate in Puerto Rico, finishing ninth in the 11-team field. Justin Elliott and Jason Cuthbertson both finished tied for 16th in the event, while Danny Dennis tied for 20th. Joel Myrick was 39th overall, and Rocky Cleland was tied for 56th.
Following the tournament, Southern Miss will travel to Pinehurst, N.C., to compete in the Pinehurst Invitational hosted by Indiana University. The three day event begins March 19 and concludes March 21.
