Lady Eagles Close Out Home Schedule, Host UAB

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - The Southern Miss women's basketball team plays its final home game of the regular season, hosts UAB in Conference USA play on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The game will be broadcast over WXHB-FM 96.5 with the "Voice of the Lady Eagles" Jason Baker providing play-by-play action with former coach Kay James as the color analyst.
The first 500 Southern Miss fans can get team autograph card.
Southern Miss is 11-13 overall, 8-5 in league play, following a 73-50 win over Memphis. In that game, Amber Eugene led the team with a game-high 19 points, followed by Kendra Reed with 18, Liz Biland had 13 points and Kristin Chaney scored a season-high 10 points. Biland led the team with nine rebounds. Southern Miss trailed only once in the game, before scoring seven unanswered points to take the lead for good.
Reed leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.6 points per game, followed by Ashley Boehnel at 13.6 points. Ashley Harrell is next, averaging 11.5 points with Amber Eugene averaging 10.4 points per game. Eugene also leads the team in rebounding at 6.9 rebounds per game. Southern Miss is averaging 65.5 points and 35.4 rebounds per game as a team, while shooting 41.0 percent from the field and 74.5 from the line.
UAB, under the direction of second-year coach Audra Smith, enters the game with a record of 14-10 overall and 7-6 in the league, following a 74-65 win at UCF. In that game, four players scored in double figures, led by Britney Jones' 21 points, followed by Carmen Guzman with 14 points, Crystal McFadden and Christon Ingram added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Guzman leads the team in scoring, averaging 16.6 points followed by McFadden at 13.9 points per game. Ingram leads the team in rebounding at 6.0 rebounds per game. Guzman also leads the team in assists (72) and steals (42).
Following the UAB game, Southern Miss hits the road for the conclusion of its regular season, playing at East Carolina on Feb. 24, before closing out the season at Marshall on Feb. 26.
Something About UAB UAB comes into the game, having won five of its last seven games. The Blazers are averaging 70.5 points and 37.8 rebounds per game as a team, while shooting 42.3 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the line. UAB has three players averaging in double figure scoring. UAB has connected on 113 three-pointers and ranks sixth in the league, averaging 4.74 threes made per game. As a team, UAB ranks second in three-point field goal percentage defense.
About The Series This is the 40th meeting between the two teams. The first meeting was played during the 1978-79 season. Southern Miss leads the series, 25-14. Southern Miss owns a 15-3 record against UAB at home, 10-9 in Birmingham and 0-2 at neutral sites. UAB won the last meeting earlier this season in Birmingham, 73-70.
